Differences in Technical Development and Playing Space in Three UEFA Champions Leagues

2021

[Abstract] The analysis of football grows exponentially, with many researchers adopting it as an object of study. The thematic range that addresses it, as well as the different methodologies used, are of a very different nature—physical, psychological, technical, tactical—enriching every day the knowledge, and understanding of the game itself. The objective of this study has been to identify the differences between the different styles of play that lead to becoming the champion of the UEFA Champions League in the last 3 years of the pre-COVID stage, by analyzing the spatial performance developed, the association between the players that make up the different lines of the game system and the…

Wavelet analysis of baryon acoustic structures in the galaxy distribution

2011

Baryon Acoustic Oscillations (BAO) are a feature imprinted in the density field by acoustic waves travelling in the plasma of the early universe. Their fixed scale can be used as a standard ruler to study the geometry of the universe. BAO have been previously detected using correlation functions and power spectra of the galaxy distribution. In this work, we present a new method for the detection of the real-space structures associated with this feature. These baryon acoustic structures are spherical shells with a relatively small density contrast, surrounding high density central regions. We design a specific wavelet adapted to the search for shells, and exploit the physics of the process b…

CMB spectral distortions in generic two-field models

2017

We investigate the CMB $\mu$ distortion in models where two uncorrelated sources contribute to primordial perturbations. We parameterise each source by an amplitude, tilt, running and running of the running. We perform a detailed analysis of the distribution signal as function of the model parameters, highlighting the differences compared to single-source models. As a specific example, we also investigate the mixed inflaton-curvaton scenario. We find that the $\mu$ distortion could efficiently break degeneracies of curvaton parameters especially when combined with future sensitivity of probing the tensor-to-scalar ratio $r$. For example, assuming bounds $\mu < 0.5 \times 10^{-8}$ and $r<0.0…

Muon capture revisited

1990

Abstract The problem of inclusive muon capture in nuclei is studied by calculating the capture rate in asymmetric infinite nuclear matter and using the local density approximation to evaluate the capture rates in nuclei. It is shown that the method is rather reliable and allows one to improve on approximations used in the past. The need for a strong nuclear renormalization is shown, reducing the capture rates by about a factor two in medium and heavy nuclei. By using standard effective interactions in the spin-isospin channel one can account for this renormalization and one finds a remarkable overall agreement with the measured capture rates for a large list of nuclei through the periodic t…

The temperature dependence of vibronic lineshapes: linear electron-phonon coupling.

2014

We calculate the effect of a linear electron-phonon coupling on vibronic transitions of dye molecules of arbitrary complexity. With the assumption of known vibronic frequencies (for instance from quantum-chemical calculations), we give expressions for the absorption or emission lineshapes in a second-order cumulant expansion. We show that the results coincide with those obtained from generalized Redfield theory if one uses the time-local version of the theory and applies the secular approximation. Furthermore, the theory allows to go beyond the Huang-Rhys approximation and can be used to incorporate Dushinsky effects in the treatment of the temperature dependence of optical spectra. We cons…

Quantum simulation of the spin-boson model with a microwave circuit

2017

We consider superconducting circuits for the purpose of simulating the spin-boson model. The spin-boson model consists of a single two-level system coupled to bosonic modes. In most cases, the model is considered in a limit where the bosonic modes are sufficiently dense to form a continuous spectral bath. A very well known case is the ohmic bath, where the density of states grows linearly with the frequency. In the limit of weak coupling or large temperature, this problem can be solved numerically. If the coupling is strong, the bosonic modes can become sufficiently excited to make a classical simulation impossible. Here, we discuss how a quantum simulation of this problem can be performed …

Plasmon polaritons of metallic nanowires for controlling submicron propagation of light

1999

Laboratoire de Physique, Optique Submicronique, Universite´de Bourgogne, BP 47870, F-21078 Dijon, France~Received 29 April 1999!We use the Green dyadic technique to study the propagation of a local excitation along metallic nanowiresof a subwavelength cross section. The metallic nanowires are elongated parallelepipeds deposited on a trans-parent substrate. A tightly focused plane wave illuminates one end of the nanowires. The localized surface-plasmon resonances of the nanowires propagate the local excitations over distances larger than the incidentwavelength. The properties of the electromagnetic eigenmodes of the nanowires are analyzed in terms of thelocal density of states. @S0163-1829~9…

Preliminary Results on the Use of Leather Chrome Shavings for Air Passive Sampling

2012

A new passive sampler based on low-density polyethylene (LDPE) layflat tube filled with chrome shavings from tannery waste residues was evaluated to determine volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in indoor and outdoor areas. VOCs were directly determined by head space-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HS-GC-MS) without any pretreatment of the sampler and avoiding the use of solvents. Limit of detection values ranging from 20 to 75 ng sampler−1and good repeatability values were obtained for VOCs under study with relative standard deviation values from 2.8 to 9.6% except for carbon disulfide for which it was 22.5%. The effect of the amount of chrome shavings per sampler was studied and resul…

Gilbert damping of CoFe-alloys

2019

We report structural, magnetic and dynamic properties of polycrystalline Coalt;subagt;xalt;/subagt;Fealt;subagt;1-xalt;/subagt;-alloy films on Sapphire, Silicon and MgO substrates across the full composition range, by using a Vector Network Analyser ferromagnetic resonance measurement technique (VNA-FMR), Superconducting Quantum Interference Device magnetometry (SQUID) and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). In the approximate vicinity of 28% Co, we observe a minimum of the damping parameter, associated with a reduction in the density of states to a minimum value at the Fermi energy level. For films on all substrates, we find magnetic damping of the order of 4-5⋅10alt;supagt;-3alt;/supagt;, showing th…

(Invited) The Effect of (La,Sr)MnO 3 Cathode Surface Termination on Its Electronic Structure

2017

La1-xSrxMnO3 (LSM) was one of the first perovskites used as SOFC cathode material. Its (001) surface has two possible terminations, LaSrO and MnO2, with quite different properties and oxygen reduction efficiencies. To avoid effects of surface polarity and the dipole moment across the material, symmetric non-stoichiometric slabs are commonly used in theoretical calculations with identical terminating planes on its both sides. We analyzed the dependence of the electronic structure (density of states) and charge distribution (effective atomic charges and chemical bond covalency) on the slab termination and Mn ion oxidation state (controlled by the Sr content and slab nonstoichiometry).
